Research Areas
Radiation Detection and Imaging
Continuing advances in radiation detection and related technologies impact a wide range of applications in basic and applied research, national security, radiological safety, and health. Research in this area aims at the development and demonstration of new and improved concepts in radiation detection and imaging by utilizing advances in multi-sensor fusion, computer vision, robotics, and mixed reality, as well as machine learning. It encompasses the development and characterization of detector materials and components and leverages facilities such as the 88-Inch Cyclotron at Berkeley Lab. Advanced neutron generator technologies in combination with radiation detection, mapping, and robotics provide unprecedented capabilities in the exploration and characterization of materials in complex environments. Radiation detection provides an important pillar in our societal engagement more broadly.
