Fuel Cycles and Radioactive Waste

This area of study is dedicated to advancing the methods and models essential for the analysis of nuclear material management from cradle to grave. The methods and models developed play a crucial role in assessing environmental impact, economic viability, and proliferation resistance of a fuel cycle, while also contributing to the design of optimized fuel-cycle systems. This area encompasses the development of deterministic models, supported by  experimental data, as well as probabilistic approaches and optimization techniques. With an aging fleet of commercial reactors, decommissioning and waste management of the entire nuclear power plant will become an increasingly significant priority. Methods to predict and manage the quantity and radioactivity of waste streams will become essential.
