NE130/230 Students Explore Historic Plutonium Sample

April 28, 2025

Last week, students in the spring 2025 NE130/230 Analytical Methods for Nonproliferation course had a special opportunity to see and hold the first macroscopic sample of plutonium isolated by Glenn Seaborg during the Manhattan Project. This course explores a variety of topics in nuclear security and nonproliferation including nuclear source search, localization, and imaging; indicators for fissile material production; active interrogation; and nuclear arms control and treaty verification. More information about the plutonium sample is available here.
