UC Berkeley Nuclear Engineering Student Earns First Place for Fusion Research at LLNL
This summer, UC Berkeley Nuclear Engineering student, Faith Lawrence, had the opportunity to intern at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), supporting the National Ignition Facility (NIF) through the Livermore Institute for Fusion Technology (LIFT).
As part of her research, Faith investigated how design parameters influence the performance of ceramic tritium breeders, contributing to research in fusion energy. Her work included computational modeling and data analysis performed on LLNL’s high-performance supercomputers.
Faith recently presented her research at the NIF Intern Poster Symposium, where she was awarded the 1st-Place Judge’s Choice Award in the undergraduate division. She is also continuing to prepare a manuscript for publication in coordination with LIFT.
She is grateful to her mentors and advisors, Alex Yang and Bassem El-Dasher, as well as the LLNL team for their support and for the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge fusion research.Fusion Technology (LIFT).
