Nonproliferation
Nonproliferation is a multidisciplinary mission-oriented field, comprising both technology and policy. Research in nonproliferation includes active and passive interrogation modalities for interdiction of trafficking in special nuclear materials (high resolution nuclear radiation detection and imaging, portable radiation sources, etc.); the development of new technologies and techniques for the IAEA safeguards regime, etc. An important component of research in the Department concerns nuclear forensics, both pre- and post-detonation, emphasizing nuclear chemistry, mass spectrometry, and other state-of-art analytical capabilities.
